For ages outdoor workers have shaped the epitome of businesses with utmost care and precision. This has been one such phenomenon that occurs at the base level at the beginning of any framework. However, little has the notion derived its importance as these workers operate under extreme heat, sunlight and bad weather conditions and burn their skin to carry forward the job.
Notably, these workers are often seen not complaining about this part of the job as they carry their personal supplies like water and food, which does not last all day and this where facility management services have begun to intervene.
In a recent study on integrated facility management services, it was observed that facility services are stepping beyond their core competencies to serve the frameworks in rendering better support. Facility management services are found to cover the ground on humane ethics as they suggest tips and tricks to act in accordance to prevent outdoor workers from facing heat illness:
1. PLAN AN EMERGENCY RESPONSE: Develop and implement an effective prevention plan that includes emergency response procedures. It is difficult to work under the scorching sun resulting which dizziness, fever and fatigue may appear to workers that may slow down their performance. Thus may sometimes also lead to extreme treatments as a result of heat following which heat strokes, sun burn and fevers may brutally impact one’s health. Hence, it is necessary to keep all emergency items like adequate water and shelter prepared in advance to avoid any casualties.
2. TRAINING: Train all employees and supervisors on emergency prevention. To prevent any emergencies from happening in the first place, facility management services are to train the employees and supervisors on emergency prevention. This should include an extensive program on sharing tips and tricks on preventing emergency health crisis which may need severe attention at the moment if not treated properly earlier.
3. WATER: Serving fresh and pure drinking water with a cool temperature and available free of cost so that each worker can drink at least 1 quart per hour, and encourage workers to do so more often. Under heightening temperatures, human body tends to lose more water which may cause dehydration and dizziness. It is really necessary and can’t be emphasized more that a clean and drinkable water source needs to be ready at the site for all workers.
4. SHADE: Encourage workers to cool off after working and rest in shade as they desire. They should not wait for emergency situations to strike and feel sick. It should be prioritized and detailed to workers that is important to take abreak every 5 or 10 minutes. Sweltering heat can do enough damage to them alone and they may feel energy deprived and exhausted.
